Heavy snowfall in the French Alps has caused severe disruption leaving up to 15,000 vehicles stranded in roads leading to the regions ski resorts in south eastern France.

Local Authorities have set up temporary shelters in school halls and sports centres to help travellers who have been forced to leave their vehicles.

Drivers are being urged by the local Authorities to exercise caution and to delay journeys where possible according to news reports.

Holiday companies who have customers travelling in areas affected by the adverse weather conditions are advised to liaise with ground handling agents and staff to account for their customers and check on their wellbeing.

Customers should be advised of any contingency measures put in place for those who may not be able to return home on their original flight and any arrangements made for those customers due to travel who may not be able to reach their intended holiday resorts.
